Most of you probably never heard about this tournament since it was cancelled due to lack of registration. The tournament was to be held July 3rd and 4th and have multiple divisions for youth, men’s, and coed teams. Now I admit I’ve been critical of soccer organizers before. But look at the email I received a day or so after registering my team.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of registration, the 3 v 3 Tournament scheduled for July 3rd and 4th has been cancelled. Your entry fee will be refunded and mailed to you. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, we are equally as disappointed not to be hosting this event.

I take issue with the first part of this. I’ve tried various forays into the world of convening soccer in the past year. I’ve had varying degrees of success. But one thing that was consistent is whether or not things worked out, I acknowledged that fortune had very little to do with my success compared to the amount of effort and time I was putting in. Am I supposed to believe that the MSA, which has the contact info for A LOT of teams, in the month of the World Cup when soccer fever is at its pitch, failed to fill out this tournament because they were unfortunate? This tournament folded because the people responsible for signing up teams clearly weren’t losing sleep as the days ran out and no one had registered. They weren’t motivated enough to do anything, or whatever was done clearly wasn’t close to enough.
Unfortunate is making a tackle but having the ball bounce free to your opponent anyway. This was just slacking. Own up MSA. This tournament not happening is a bigger fail than France or Italy going out at group stage.

I wish you hadn’t made a France reference, but I still agree with you. There is nothing ‘unfortunate’ about not advertising an event.
